Symphonic Choir earns top rating at state contest
State Choir Contest a success!
Congratulations to the Hilliard Bradley HS Symphonic Choir for an outstanding performance at the Ohio Music Education Association State Large Group Contest on Saturday, April 28th at Gahanna Middle School West. The Symphonic Choir performed one required piece and two select pieces on the stage and received the following ratings: superior/superior/excellent. In sightreading, the members of the choir earned a superior rating. The overall rating was a SUPERIOR in class AA which is the hardest class of musical literature. Congratulations to all of the choir members for representing Bradley at the state level. The members want to thank Mr. Stewart and the staff/board members who were able to attend our performance. In addition, the singers also appreciate the many parents who helped chaperone our trip and donated breakfast items. Go Jags!
Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble earn Superior Ratings at state contests
Congratulations to both the Bradley Symphonic Band and Bradley Wind Ensemble for their outstanding performances at the Ohio Music Educators Association State Adjudicated Event, on Friday April 27, 2012. Both bands performed at the highest level in their classification. The Symphonic Band earned a “Superior Rating,” (I) which is the highest honor in each class. The Wind Ensemble earned an “Excellent Rating” (II) in “Class AA,” which requires performing college level literature.
Hilliard Bradley Multicultural Fair Provides Education, Benefits Poverty Relief
Hilliard Bradley High School students and staff members will host a Multicultural Fair and Global Market at the school on May 4. Students will highlight specific attributes from their culture including art, activities, clothing and food. Proceeds from the sale of various cultural items will help with poverty relief. This event is sponsored by HBR Diversity Club, English Language Learners (ELL) Team, German Club and Spanish Club. Hilliard City Schools enrolls more than 15,600 students and 1,076 of this total are ELL students from 41 different countries who speak 38 different languages.
HADD Presentation to Highlight Dangers of Impaired and Distracted Driving
The Hilliard Against Distracted Driving (HADD) campaign, in partnership with Central Ohio’s Think First chapter Director Ann Smith of the OSU Medical Center, will host a presentation to 11th grade students on Thursday, May 3. The topics presented include the dangers of distracted and impaired driving, as told by three former trauma patients at the Wexner Medical Center at OSU. Stories will profile Kevin, who will discuss motorcycles, helmets and drinking, with an impact on athletes; Lee, who will discuss drinking and driving, speeding and not wearing a seatbelt; and, Austin, who will cover drinking, “huffing,” making responsible decisions as a passenger getting in with a drunk driver and seatbelt usage. The HADD campaign is a Hilliard City Schools community awareness initiative presented by students from all three high schools to educate students, staff and community members of the dangers of texting and talking on the phone while driving.
Hilliard Bradley Students Recognized at State Future Business Leaders Conference
Eight Hilliard Bradley High School (HBR) students received high honors at the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) State Leadership Conference held earlier this month. In addition, the school achieved Fourth Place in the Gold Seal Chapter of Merit. This award is the highest chapter award that can be achieved and is an indication of the level of participation the chapter has in member involvement, competition and community service. The Hilliard City School District offers 12 high school business courses that introduce students to the value of business skills in the domestic and global marketplace and prepares them for further education and/or entry into the workforce after high school.
